Great question! Since your open bite extends past your upper and lower canines (only your molars and premolars are touching), this would be classified as a complex, severe open bite. In cases such as these, there is usually a significant skeletal component to the open bite. Braces can certainly help, but braces are no match for a thumb! Correction of the open bite will definitely require elimination of the thumb habit to start, followed by braces and possibly jaw surgery as well.
