I am taking spironolactone for adult female hormonal acne. I currently take my full dose in the evening. I now have to discontinue my birth control pill because I’ve turned 50. I am worried about hormonal breakouts. Would it be better to split my dose of spironolactone rather than take it at once? I am on 200mg/day.

Spironolactone has a half life of about 16 hours for the active metabolites of the drug. This means that it would take about 36 hours before traces of spironolactone should not be detected in your blood. Hope this helps.
