Great question. The effects of a laser are dependent on wavlength and other properties which can often be tailored for treatment. Most patients undergo laser treatment for skin resurfacing. This lasers do not penetrate deeply enough to affect facial volume. The laser is designed to treat wrinkles and textural changes of the skin- tightening it for a much younger look. I often couple laser resurfacing with fat transfer, which not only adds volume, but also helps the skin achieve a more youthful shine. Hope this helps!

Hi there, lasers used for facial rejuvenation usually do not penetrate deep enough into the subcutaneous fat to cause any type of fat loss.  The 1060 nm wavelength laser that is used in a procedure called Sculpsure or Warmsculpting does penetrate into the fat and is designed to do so specifically as it is a spot fat reduction procedure.  Generally, you can think that the longer the wavelength the deeper it might penetrate but that is also dependent on other factors.  The Erbium:YAG laser for example is 2940 nm but is highly absorbed by water and the effects remain in the dermis while the laser is used.  The CO2 laser is 10600 nm but also remains confined to the upper layers of the skin when used for skin resurfacing.  Hope this helps...
