Is it possible to switch Orthodontists mid-treatment?

Transferring in the middle of treatment can create some challenges for both you and the orthodontist that can actually cost you more money.  Among other things, this comes from differences in treatment philosophies and training, incompatible appliances (braces), and potentially difficult communication between providers.  There is a significant likelihood that the new doctor may need to re-plan your case and even change your appliances (braces)...essentially "starting over".  If you won't be moving till mid-treatment or longer.  It might be worthwhile to get a lot of the movement done, although the new doctor still may need to change appliances to finish the case. You probably wouldn't be charged a full fee.  So, if you think you will be moving during the first few months of treatment, I would definitely wait.
