Dental bridge margins: what are they?

I have the second replacement of a five tooth bridge on my bottom teeth. The first one broke after just two weeks. The second one feels to high. The dentist said the margins were off. He fiddled with it four or five times and then drilled porcelain off my top two caps twice (which I thought was a weird thing to do). it feels higher than my other side and at normal rest the teeth on the other side don't touch each other. The dentist refused to send it back to the lab. I do not understand what margins are.

Hi:Very good question.  Margin is the meeting area between a dental restoration and the tooth.  If the margin is not sealed there is high chance of decay.Best,Dr. Maddahi

The margins are where the crowns meet the teeth, usually under your gums or right at the gum line. For a bridge that long, I would usually ask the lab for a coping (the foundation of the bridge) to make sure the margins fit properly and that the bridge would seat properly. Then the porcelain would be added after that and the bridge cemented. It's not too weird to adjust the top teeth when working with a lower bridge. Sometimes it makes more sense to adjust the opposing teeth a little bit.
