I am a 16 year old female and have struggled with moderate-severe acne for about 7 months now. My dermatologist prescribed me 100 mg and it's to be taken the week before and during my period and to be stopped at my discretion. I have started taking it daily and have noticed no side effects besides a lighter period and less spots. I was wondering if I should continue taking it daily (is it safe) and what time of day would be best to take it?

Spironolactone is actually a potassium-sparing diuretic but it's anti-androgen effect can counter the hormones that promote the development of acne and also can help women who experience hair loss due to higher levels of androgens.
This drug, if you look at the PI or product information, can cause period or menstrual irregularities. Try dropping the dose, or see you physician for a solution.CheersDr Davin lim Laser and aesthetic dermatologist. BRISBANE, Australia.
