Dermatologist prescribe me spironolactone for male acne? Is this a normal prescription?

My dermatologist prescribed me 25mg of spiro for 30 days to see if it helps me with my hormonal acne. I'm a 21 year old male, but everything I've read about this drug is regarding acne for women. Is this a normal prescription?

Spironolactone is useful in many women with acne. Weight gain from this drug is not common. Consult with your provider if you are experiencing this – and again, know that this is not something that we see with this drug.

This treatment, althougth not the most common regimen, does make sense.  Since spironolactone is used to treat hormonal flares of acne, and these flares are most likely to occur right before or during your period, using it at this time does make sense.  For people with more moderate to...
