Dermatologist prescribe me spironolactone for male acne? Is this a normal prescription?

My dermatologist prescribed me 25mg of spiro for 30 days to see if it helps me with my hormonal acne. I'm a 21 year old male, but everything I've read about this drug is regarding acne for women. Is this a normal prescription?

Spironolactone is a useful medicine in treatment of acne in women,  traditionally.  It has to be taken for a few months usually,  specially if there are indications of some hormonal imbalance.  I do think that usage in males is rather untraditional.

question and for most, this is not common or typical for a male patient with
acne. All acne to some degree is hormonal, so unless there is something that we
are not being told here, there is no reason I can see to put you on this –
there are plenty of other medicines and procedures that should be able to
control your acne.
