Root canal redo by endodontist. Do I need an implant instead?

Allow your endodontist to be your guide as to his/her thoughts on the long term success of a root canal.  If not certain of a high probability of success, then I would consider having the implant placed.  This would require the tooth to be extracted and bone grafted.  After a period of time (usually 3-6 months), you are ready to have the implant placed.  Three to four months after placement you can have the implant restored with a crown.  I would not bother contacting you previous dentist.  He/she provided a service that worked well for almost 15 years. You certainly got some good use out of it!  Good luck.     

I didn't read anything in your description of your situation that sounds like there's any need for treatment at this time. unless you're having discomfort or there is a reason to believe that the teeth are infected, then I would simply monitor periodically.If the teeth are infected or you're having discomfort, then you have serval choices. You can have the root canal's redone, or you can have a surgical procedure called an apicoectomy, ir you can replace the tooth with a dental implant. Are there any symptoms or infection notedif not I would leave alone .  If there is pathology then I would try to retreat first    Implants are a great option. But saving a good tooth is usually the first choice calling the prior Dr after 14 years is pushing it a little 

Sorry to hear the problems that you are having. An implant is definitely an option as a retreat of a previous root canal is not a guaranteed success either . In terms of letting the previous dentist know , I would not waste your time as it is 14 years old . Good luck
