15 years post gastric bypass. I have iron anemia and a recent weight gain. Is it ok to take motrin?

You need a complete work up .Rule out vitamin , protein and other nutritional deficiencies .Rule out ulcers in the excluded stomach.You need to be treated for depression .You have to work with a nutritionist to help you with your diet. Need to be on a balance diet .People gain weight after gastric bypass for a several reasons . Some are related to the surgery and also can be behavioral you need to avoid high calorie liquid such as soda, ice cream ,..Also need to avoid nibbling.I think you need help and close supervision of an experience bariatric team. You have to make yourself the first priority.

Sounds like you have a lot of issues going on. To address your question about Motrin, we generally advise patients to try and limit how much Motrin/Advil/Ibuprofen/Aspirin they take after a gastric bypass because it can cause irritation and ulceration within the gastric pouch. Taking it once in a while is ok, but taking 800-1200mg everyday can certainly cause problems in your pouch. If you absolutely need to take the motrin, you should also take a proton pump inhibitor like Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, or Dexilant as well to protect your stomach pouch.
