Can I go on a water fast while on Accutane?

Thanks for your question.  It will probably not be harmful to fast occasionally while on accutane, but it will not work as well during that time.  We have learned over the years that accutane is absorbed best when taken with fatty foods and works a lot better if you eat something with a little fat in it when taking the capsules.  But it still does work to some degree without food, so you will probably be fine if you feel strongly about following your practices.  Ask your dermatologist to be sure, and I hope you have wonderful results from the accutane course.  

Hello and thank you for your question. Isotretinoin is best absorbed by your body when taken with a fatty meal. With a water fast, you may not be absorbing as much of the medication for full effect. I would recommend a consultation by a board certified dermatologist for evaluation of your process and discussion of on going treatment. Best of luck.
