Im a healthy female. 5'4" and 160lbs. Is 600-700cc's enough for a bbl? I am very flat and need volume.
Answer: BBL candidate Dear Energetic265990, based on your photos, you look like a good candidate for a BBL. Liposuction of your abdomen, back and flanks should give you more curves and hourglass shape and fat transfer to buttocks should give you more projection. I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon because only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: My doc says he will only give me 600-700ccs max for a BBL. Is this enough? (photos) I have found that all but the smallest patients need 600 cc or more per buttock to get a noticeable difference. After the initial resorption phase, about 50 to 70% of the fat survives long term so you could see 400cc per buttock. Enough depends upon what your goals are. Consult via email or Skype with a board certified PS to discuss you harvest areas and your desired results.

Answer: My doc says he will only give me 600-700ccs max for a BBL. Is this enough? Hello dear! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. Your BMI is within the recommended range, but unfortunately, without pictures, it is very difficult to give you a proper answer. In general, you need to be physically healthy and at a stable weight, have realistic expectations, be a non-smoker and your BMI needs to be 30 or less. l recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to talk about your goals and anything you need to know. Good luck :)

Answer: Pre-determining volume for a BBL Volumes needed for a BBL can vary immensely and it’s in reality quite difficult to predetermined the amount needed for a great results. For that reason I never pre-determined or “how much fat I’m going to use” because it varies from so many different variables. Patients who have a body that looks like SpongeBob need a lot of fat grafted down to their thigh and may need well over 1000 mL per side and then some. People who have full volumes in their thighs and a small pelvic structure may be fine with 500 mL. In your case because of the fullness above your buttocks the liposuction aspect is by far the most important part of the procedure. Getting the transition zone of where liposuction starts compared to where the fat transfer starts is key to making your body look ideal and natural. In regards to limiting the graft to six or 700 mL it depends on exactly the extent of areas they are going to be grafted and other factors like if the fat has been centrifuged or properly separated from the liquid part that comes out with Liposuction. This is why I am referring to numbers with these procedures is a bit inaccurate because 600 mL a fat that’s been centrifuged may be the same amount of fat ass in that 900 mL that has not been separated properly. Most plastic surgeons do not centrifuge fat for the BBL procedure but some do make an effort to separate the fat from the liquid part that comes out from liposuction more than others. It isn’t that important for the procedure but it’s important when numbers are being discussed. Your best option is to review before and after pictures of previous patients with this provider who have similar body shapes to your own and know how much fat was grafted in each of those. If their results after at least three months from the date of the procedure look like results you want to obtain then those numbers should be sufficient. if your doctor has shown you the results you want to get on patience with similar bodies to your own using amounts that he or she feels are appropriate then there should be no issue. When in doubt have more consultations with more providers. I will include my general recommendations for patients seeking cosmetic surgery. 1. I recommend patients avoid traveling long distances for elective surgical procedures. There are of course instances where there is a lack of local talent and traveling to some degree is inevitable. If traveling for the procedure patients should be ready to travel to have the consultation, post operative appointments and follow up should there be issues or complications. Patients sometimes do not appreciate the importance of in person consultations, that complications do happen or the number of people who have issues with their results or need revisions. 2. Schedule multiple consultations with different providers in your area who seem to have a good reputation for the procedure you’re interested in. Starting with at least five consultations seems like a reasonable number to me. 3. Whenever possible schedule in person consultations. 4. During in person consultations ask each plastic surgeon to show all of their before and after pictures for the procedure you’re interested in. The goal is not to see the best results of their career but to get an idea of what average results look like and get some type of confirmation of how many of these procedures that provider has performed. Ask to see results that were not as good as the doctor would’ve hoped for and talk about the differences in outcomes. Honest and experienced providers should have no problems presenting this type of information. A highly experienced plastic surgeon should have hundreds of before and after pictures for the procedure you’re interested in. At a minimum at least 20+. 5. Read all the reviews on various physician review websites paying close attention and avoiding providers with any significant number of justified negative reviews. Providers with an abundance of reviews often have aggressive marketing campaigns. The plastic surgeons I respect most all have the single variable of not having justified negative reviews on their online profiles. In my opinion justified negative reviews are far more telling than an abundance of positive reviews. 6. Avoid scheduling for surgery or making a deposit on the day of the consultation. Give yourself some time to think about the decision and make sure you finished all scheduled consultations before committing to having surgery that will permanently and irreversibly change your body. When in doubt slow down and schedule more consultations. Choosing the right plastic surgeon is the single most important variable to having a positive experience. 7. Don’t go chasing after technology or names of certain equipment. Instead focus all your efforts on finding the most experienced and talented board-certified plastic surgeon. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
