I have dental bonding on one of my front teeth i chipped off about a quarter of the bottom of my tooth. My issue is that the bonding chips incredibly easily, I've read elsewhere people can have it for 10 years, the longest my bonding has lasted is 1 year. I've had to have it redone 4 times in the past 3 years. I had braces so my teeth are properly aligned so that can't be the cause and I'm very careful not to damage it. Why doesn't it last??

Great question! Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so what can look fine to one person, may not to another. But when it comes down to physics, a smooth surface will be less likely to chip again in the future. It would be best to evaluate your bite and have a full exam to make sure...
First congrats on your new smile!
That said, whenever there's a unwelcome change in the bite, your jaw joint has to adjust to it and sometimes that means discomfort or pain temporarily until the bite is corrected back to ideal.
From the sounds of it, you need a comprehensive bite...
I would recommend a crown to be placed to not only give you the aesthetics you're desiring but also to reinforce and strengthen the tooth. Remember that teeth with root canals are always weaker.
