Safe and Effective Method for Butt Augmentation?

Which safe and effective butt augmentation method would you recommend for more shapely and slightly bigger buttocks?

The best way to obtain a shapely and slightly larger buttock is by way of fat transfer, also known as Brazilian buttock lift. This technique involves removing fat from unwanted areas such as the abdomen, sides, and back (using liposuction) and then injecting the fat into the gluteal area and sometimes hips.  This not only increases the size of the buttocks, but more importantly, improves the overall shape of the lower back, hips and lumbar area.  Not all of the fat survives during a fat transfer like this, about 40-50% can shrink over time.

	The other option to increase the size of the buttock is by way of a firm, silicone implant.  This is really only useful in thin patients who do not have sufficient fat to perform a fat transfer.  The implants have more complications, such as infection, hard scar tissue, movement/migration, to name a few.  The implants can not improve your overall shape the way a fat transfer can.

Brazilian butt lift (fat transfer to the buttock) is the
best procedure to enhance your buttock because it enables your plastic surgeon
to transform your entire shape. 
Liposuction is performed over several areas depending on the individual
patient needs, but typically of the flanks, abdomen, back and thighs.  This is an amazing procedure because it
allows your surgeon to tailor your results to your individual needs and
desires!

The amount of fat needed depends on the shape and needs of
each individual patient, however in general at least 500cc per buttock need to
be placed to see a significant difference. On average patients typically
receive around 800cc per buttock side for a total of 1600cc of fat
transfer.  However just like a breast
augmentation the amount of fat needed various from patient to patients.  Also the sculpting done with the liposuction
is a big part of the procedure to improve the overall shape.

If a patient has a BMI less than 22 they typically will not have
enough fat for the Brazilian butt lift.  In
these patients buttock implants are a good option for our thin patients.

Some patients have both the fat transfer and implants as
this helps improve the overall shape and give them more augmentation than would
be possible with either procedure alone.

It is important that you discuss your buttock augmentation
options with a board certified plastic surgeon.

Thank you for your question.  Fat transfer in my opinion would be the best way to go. The fat is injected through two very small incisions and is carefully layered through tunnels throughout the buttocks. In 30 to 35% of the patients a repeat fat grafting is necessary because of significant absorption of fat. However, it is unlikely that further fat grafting beyond the second treatment will be necessary.

An important consideration for buttock fat grafting is the availability of extra fat in different parts of the body. While fat is usually in abundance, there are patients in whom there is no extra fat available.

The brazilian butt lift is a type of butt augmentation procedure which removes fat from selected areas of your body, purifies the fat, then reinjects selected donor fat cells into your buttocks. The process of fat reinjection involves hundreds of injections. The procedure is designed to fill the upper quadrant of your buttocks so that the butt appears lifted and perky.

	The B'more Butt Lift also enhances the butt, but there is no fat injected. It transforms the figure by changing the relationship of the waist to the hips and offers a more subtle result, for the patient who wantsa more defined, perky and attractive backside, without a significant volume increase. It's also less expensive than the Brazilian butt lift, and the recovery period is less than half of the time of the Brazilian butt lift.

This surgery uses a combination of liposuction and fat grafting (i.e. fat injections with the patient’s own fat) to produce a fuller, firmer, more youthful-appearing buttocks. Buttock augmentation with autologous fat is the safest way to create a larger and more aesthetically pleasing buttocks.  In our practice during this  this procedure the fat is removed in some of the adjacent areas, processed properly and placed using the technique that allows for maximum p[reservation of augmentation. 

	Another approach for some of our  patients is using buttock implants, this procedure does have a somewhat higher complication profile, nevertheless a number of patients enjoy a nice trouble free result.  Still yet another option, not yet available in U.S. if using a foreign substance of which there are many, some with an acceptable risk profile.

Using your own fat can simultaneousy shape the hips, waist,a nd tummy while also providing more buttock fullness. An implant is best for patients who have little or no available fat, but the complication rate for implants is much higher.

The only really SAFE butt augmentation is a Fat transfer, in the USA that is FDA approved. The PMMA injections (non FDA approved but can be done "off label" use) done in Mexico are excellent, safe, and very expensive.

The buttock can be augmented in several ways, one with a solid silicone implant and the other with your own fat. The implants are a reliable way to increase volume, but have limitations in both the recovery phase as well as risks of implant related complications such as infections. Brazilian butt lifts produce a larger and shapelier buttock through the injection of fat into the buttock and liposuction of the surrounding areas to make the buttock relatively bigger - making the surrounding areas smaller. However, only about 50% of the fat injected will survive and you need enough fat to undergo the procedure.

Most women and men have a more natural augmentation through a Brazilian Butt Lift, but if you are desiring a very "round" appearance, the best way to achieve this is through an implant. A "more shapely and slightly bigger buttocks" will likely be best served with a Brazilian Butt Lift, but you would need to confirm this with an in-patient consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
