Negative effects of CoolSculpting on Neurofibroma patients?

The CoolSculpting procedure targets only adipose (fat) tissue and should not affect neurofibromas.  Since the lumps of neurofibroma are in the treatment area, as the fat surrounding them is diminished by CoolSculpting, the neurofibromas may become more prominent and visible and require surgical removal.

I was asked about coolsculpting for treatment of neurofibromas by a colleague who wanted to refer such a patient. I could find no information on this and the coolsculpting company did not have an details, either. My guess is that it wouldn't work since only fatty tissue was affected in the basic science research and human studies on coolsculpting. Nerves and blood vessels were unaffected which probably has to do with the fact that they are usually in close proximity with each other; this would keep the tissue warm enough to escape the freezing that affects fatty tissue which is less well supplied with blood. After coolsculpting a significant percentage of fat cells in the treated tissue volume die.
