Can Buccal Fat Removal Make Acne Scarring Look Worse?

I know many doctors don't like to perform buccal fat removal but in my case i really do have excessive buccal fat so have been advised to have it removed. I have indented acne scarring to my cheeks and wonder if having the buccal fat removed would make them look deeper/worse? And if so are there any other options for the excessive fat which wouldn't make the scarring look worse?

Hello Kara,

	 

	The buccal fat pad (a deep fat) removal could have minor effect on making acne scarring look more prominent. Without photographs and physical examination it is hard to provide you with a definitive answer.

	 

	Nonetheless, it is important to note that best results are obtained with a well experienced surgeon who will take the variables into consideration.

buccal fat removal only removes the fullness of the lower anterior cheeks by removing the buccal fat pads. Since the procedure doesn't have anything to do with the face skin, it has a very low probability of making the acne scarring look worst

Although it is hard to tell without seeing your pictures it is possible that volume reduction may make acne scars look. Typically the cheek (buccal) fat is removed from a deep compartment and has less of an effect on acne scars than would removal of subcutaneous (under the skin) fat
