I'm 20 and I've noticed recently that my areolas have lightened/are fading around the edges. Is this normal?

I noticed this change within the past month but I believe compared to about a year ago my areolas are significantly lighter. I'm not pregnant, never have been nor am I sexually active (in any way). Some other details, I was told at 17 that I had a cyst in my ovaries but it was related to my high weight. Within the past eight months though I have lost over 50lbs and while my breasts have gotten smaller, my areola/nipple size and color remained the same.

Nipples (and areolas) come in many ,many shapes and forms and they are all normal. Yours appear normal. You can always consult with your family doctor or a lalstic surgeon in person. That will give you the best information. Best,

Hi, I think this is within the spectrum of normal.  There are ways to contour the surface of the nipple without changing the functional ability to breast feed in the future.  I would visit with a breast surgeon to get an initial evaluation but a visit to a board certified plastic...

Prominent nipples can be trimmed in a relatively simple procedure done under local anesthesia.  a 'puffy nipple' where the whole nipple and areola complex seem swollen and protruding can also be treated with a procedure under local anesthesia that involves a small incision around the edge...
