Broadband Light burn: What can I do to treat these blisters? (Photos)

Question

I had a forever clear BBL to help with my acne scars however I had a terrible response. The PA stated she used the lowest setting since I’m of darker color, Latina. On day 2 I woke up to forming blisters and later started draining clear fluid. I immediately contacted the office. She suggested gentle cleansing, aquafor and not to pick at anything. I’m going on day 4 and I’m freaking out. Has this happened to anyone? Recommendations?

I am so sorry you had this complication. From the photos it looks like you have second degree burns following your BBL. Darker complexion patients can be treated safely with BBL but it requires in depth knowledge of correct settings and adaptors. At this point I would suggest you see a physician as soon as possible to get started on a burn protocol. This is important in order to prevent adverse pigmentation after the burn heals.  It's imperative that you stay out of the sun.

We do BBL all of the time in the office and it can be done with patients of every color.  Please find out what settings were used and which adaptor since you now have a burn that needs to be treated by a physician.  You need topical emollients and a burn protocol and strict sun avoidance.  I am so sorry and please keep us posted.  Best, Dr. Green

You appear to have a superficial second degree burn in areas of your face following the BBL treatment.  There is redness around the burns which suggests possible infection.  You need to see your physician immediately for evaluation and treatment.  With good care the potential pigment abnormality, an increase in pigment or decrease, may be prevented.  Do not get any sun on your face, wear a hat and see your doctor ASAP.
