Can I get a black and white tattoo of a skin graphed transplant??

A few years ago I had to get a skin graph and they took skin off my leg to put on my arm and I really wanted to get it covered up in black and white as I don’t like colour tattoos I’ve been told it should be okay but I just want someone else’s thoughts

Thank you for your question!I can't predict if it will or won't work, but if you're unhappy with the results, you can always take off the tattoo with laser treatment.Yes, this can be removed with laser tattoo removal. It will take a series of treatments. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a laser tattoo removal expert. If it's new, you'll want to wait until it's completely healed (around 4-6 weeks).Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question in regards to tattoo removal. While it is typically possible to tattoo over a skin graft, it may not be suggested. Due to the texture and scaring of your skin the tattoo may not come out as desired. To be sure what is best for you, its suggested to see a tattoo artist in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. It is possible to tattoo over a skin graft. Whether it will hold the ink nicely and be a good result may be a different story. If the graft has healed smoothly you might be okay. Ask your tattoo artist to give you an honest opinion. Best, Dr. M
