Are the effects of lowering your DHT as an 18 year old with the use of finasteride known?

I would think as an 18 year old male that lowering a male hormone like this will definitely change how they mature. Has this been studied or do doctors just assume an 18 year old will handle finasteride the same as an older male?

In my opinion, finasteride is appropriate to treat an 18 year old with male pattern hair loss. The primary location for activity of finasteride is in the scalp and the prostate. This means that the conversion of testosterone to DHT which occurs in these organs is decreased. In fact, the amount of testosterone in the blood is increased. Finasteride has been used in adolescents to treat hidradenitis suppurativa. No side effects were noted. Therefore, with the exception of the occasionally reported sexual side effects, finasteride is indicated in an 18 year old male with documented male pattern hair loss. Good luck

Finasteride is safe and effective for an 18 year old to use. It will slow down the hairloss as well as treat the prostrate.

Th,e use of finasteride for an 18 year old male, is not a problem.  There is not enough of an effect on DHT systemically to really make a difference. I have prescribed finasteride in men of your age with no problems reported
