Breast reduction surgery. Have to take Ibuprofen, but for how long?

I had what looked like an allergic reaction to Tylenol 2 days post op. My surgeon said to switch to Ibuprofen. I know that's not usually ok because of the blood thinning effects. But, I had no other choice. I'm 4 days out. I stay at 400 mg, 3X a day. This is the max recommended on the bottle. I haven't been in very bad pain, but I don't want to be (obviously). Should I push through when I start to get sore and try to lessen how much I take or is it ok to keep taking that amount? Thanks.

Thanks for your question. At 4 days out, I think it is appropriate to continue taking that dosage if you are not having any issues. For my patients, I would feel that this amount is ok to continue taking, but I recommend checking with your plastic surgeon to discuss what their protocols are and what they would prefer.Best,Dr. Tag

There are other alternatives to Ibuprofen, by prescription.  However, at four days post op, the question is whether stronger medication would be required.  It is best to address this question with your plastic surgeon.
