I think it would be unwise to drive without a seatbelt. You can take the time to position it so that it is not directly over the breast.

This begs the broader question: When are you safe to drive, with a seatbelt comfortably fastened, with the attendant implications for yourself and other roadusers? There is no definite timepoint for this, as different people recover differently. When you think you are ready, it is a good idea to get someone to take you to an empty carpark to try out all driving manoeuvres first, including sudden emergency stops and swerves. If you can do these without discomfort or pain stopping you from completing them, then you should be fine on the open road.
