I Had Braces 2 Years Ago, Now I'm Considering Orthognathic Surgery? (photo)

Question

I first got braces 5 years ago and had them on for 3 years. My dentist took them off last 2011. My teeth have aligned but i still have an overbite and an open bite. Apparently my maxilla is protruded and i'm considering getting orthognathic surgery soon. It says on the articles i saw that the patient would have to get braces before getting the surgery....will my 3 years with braces count or would i have to get braces again? I'm wearing my retainers so my teeth are still aligned properly.

You were either misdiagnosed. or simply not explained it is a surgical remedy only IF you prefer no compromises. You have a tri-dimensional orthopedic discrepancy. The only way to resolve an orthopedic problem is with orthopedic therapy(surgery) in a non-growing host(assuming you are at least 19yoa)!

	More than likely you will need braces on again for the surgery, not necessarily for more straightening!.

You would most likely be required to have braces again to act as "handles" on the dental arches for the surgeon to "ligate to". Post-surgically, the braces would be in place for final detailing of the finished product. Good Luck!
