Hello I had invisalign treatment years ago and wear my retainers every night. I feel that my teeth are almost perfect. However, there is a tiny gap that I was hoping a tighter fitting plastic retainer could close. Is this possible?

It will be fine as long as it fits correctly. There is a misapprehension that all the trays do the same thing. It is designed by the doctor and some will feel like they are doing more than others.

PS if you don't wear them I guarantee it won't work.
It is recommended to remove aligners while eating to avoid stucking food in brackets and wires. About drinks or colored drinks they could stain the aligners if we had in excess so it is necessary to remove the aligners while drinking as well.
