Septoplasty follow-up; Is it normal after such a surgery to have no further post operative care?

Though every surgeon has personal preferences regarding post operative care based on personal experience and surgical principles, having only one visit at 5 days and no follow up appointments seems rather brief. I do not use internal nasal splints, but in general our protocol for septoplasty/ turbinate reduction includes: packing out post op day one, cleaning nose post op day 5-7, weekly cleaning for the first month if necessary for suctioning, 2 visits in the second month post operatively for exam and/or cleaning and one final check up in the third month prior to dismissal from routine care. Most patients do not require routine care after 90 days. Of course, all of these visits are part of the global period for follow up care and require no co-payments if insurance was filed for the surgery. If you experiencing the a stuffy nose after 5 day or have excess nasal drainage or experience nasal discomfort from crusting, I suggest you schedule followup visits with your surgeon.
