Blisters on Scar Site?

Question

I had top surgery about 2 months ago. The healing process was going ok, but about 3 weeks ago I got blisters on both areolas and on my scars. I went to my doctor right after the first blister appeared and he said that it has never happened to him but it's pretty 'normal' and that it would stop in a week or so. It's been over 2 weeks since he said it would eventually stop but it hasn't and I've been getting more blisters on my scars. Is it actually normal or something went wrong?

Thank you for your question. If they used steri strips for small band-aids, the adhesive may be reacting to your skin, and you have an adhesive allergy causing this. If you get red from any tape on your skin, this would suggest you have an adhesive allergy. I hope this helps.

I don't know why you would be having blistering of the areola weeks after breast augmentation. Anything that you might be putting on the areola including scar cream, antibiotic ointment, tape, etc. could create an environment creating the blistering. Your plastic surgeon doesn't know the problem you might want to see a dermatologist.

Your situation seems a bit unusual. Early blistering can be due to traction from tape or topically applied creams or ointments. If your plastic surgeon can not help then you man need to be seen by a dermatologist. The longer this condition persists the greater the chance of having abnormal scarring.
