I have had braces for 6 years now and each time Ive been going to the orthadontist she just keeps telling me to wear my elastics. However I have only noticed a change in my overbite and the gaps have not closed.I really want my braces of before my engagment in 5 months

Hi Sarah,Space closure can take some time with orthodontics, I would just follow the instructions given by your orthodontist. If you are concerned with your orthodontic treatment, you can always go to another orthodontist to get a second opinion if you feel the need. I hope you get them off for your engagement. Space closure can be accomplished using a variety of methods, including power chains, rubber bands (elastics) and wire bending closing loops. In your case it looks like rubber bands are being employed as the main method of space closure. In order for the rubber bands to do their job, consistent and constant wearing of these rubber bands is needed. Please see your orthodontist to let him or her know your concerns. Inform your orthodontist of your rubber band wearing schedule (how often, how many hours per day etc) to get some feedback on this matter.
