Had a chin implant that went well and it's fine. Had a consult to potentially get a bigger implant it was advised against pulling the old one a it's sitting well. Can I get filler to augment the chin with an implant in place? Thanks.
Answer: Filler You CAN get filler after an implant but you need to be prepared for the risk of seeding infection to the implant and your injector should be prepared to practice the best aseptic technique possible and have low threshold of treating you for infection if that arises. I also don't see why the other surgeon wouldn't just replace the implant iwht a larger one because it's a relatively easy exchange and you don't want to be constantly adding filler over and over because each time you are adding more risk.

Answer: Chin filler after implant? Hello LV, I have augmented chins in patients with chin implants, but it must be done by an expert injector. The injection must be in a level above the implant to avoid infection which usually requires surgical removal of the implant. Feel free to contact my office for a virtual or in person consultation regarding your concerns. Good luck and be well. Michael Persky, MD Encino, CA

Answer: Filler On Top Of Permanent Chin Implant I can only answer this in general terms. I have personally treated patients with HA filler who have had prior implants that were still in place. That being said, it is probably appropriate here to make a general comment for other readers of this answer. Very often people undergo surgical implant surgery for chins (and cheeks, etc.) in the belief that that by undergoing the expense, the surgical downtime, etc they will be getting a result that will last a lifetime. Given the fact that as we age, we continue to lose underlying bone and muscle mass, very often additional treatments are needed, as in this case--either removal of the original implant and replacement with a larger one--meaning more surgery and more downtime--or resorting to the use of filler. So, if this need for additional augmentation is inevitable down the line, as is so often the case, it would seem wiser to start with robust HA volumizing fillers in the first place. Filler chin augmentations take only about ten minutes in expert hands, yield immediate results (typically a "Wow!", and engender little to no significant downtime. You would be wise to make sure to consult with a board certified cosmetic dermatologist filler expert. Best of luck.

Answer: Chin filler after chin implant Hi @LVok, I am a facial plastic surgeon and commonly perform chin implants. Yes filler can be injected over an implant however there is a risk of infection with introducing filler and this can seed your implant in the worst case scenario. I recommend a consultation with a plastic surgeon to see if someone would be willing to do this. Best of luck, Dr. Ghazizadeh
