Mohs for the right medial canthus skd for May 3rd/reconstruction on May 5th. Could headaches on r side of head be related?

Question

Persistent headaches on right side of head and behind right eye have me worried that the BCC of my right medial canthus and the headaches are related. My fear is that the BCC extends to the area behind my eye or actual eye. I have MRI's from neurologist because of these headaches. Would my Mohs surgeon want to know my concerns and would he want to see the MRI's? Mohs surgery skd for May 3rd and reconstruction skd on May 4th. Thanks.

Hi gailcox,Thanks for your question. The risk of BCC extension into the orbit (eye socket) is higher when the lesion is located in the medial canthus. This scenario can certainly cause headaches and pain behind the eye. An MRI ordered by a neurologist for headaches may only look at the brain and not get views of the orbits. I would certainly discuss this with your Mohs surgeon. I suspect they will want to obtain additional imaging, specifically looking at the orbits to evaluate for posterior extension of the BCC. I hope this helps, good luck!

If you have concerns, i would definitely let your doctors know. While it is very unlikely the headaches and the Basal Cell are related, it is always wise to make your doctors aware of any concerns. You didn't mention the results of the MRI. I'm sure that your Neurologist did share  them with you. I think the any good surgeon would want to know about any concerns that you ave. Don't be afraid to bring them up.
