It grew large enough that it was irritating. Instead of seeing a doctor, I kept trying to remove it myself. This past April It finally broke loose. When it was removed it appeared “woody” and my nose bled a lot. After a few days I realized that the cartilage between the nostril had a hole where the “wart” had been and the cartilage is loose. My nose does not hurt, but the cartilage near the hole remains tender. Should I see a doctor for “repair” of this cartilage?

What you describe sounds unusual, and it would be worth having it looked at. You should vitit with an ENT surgeon who can thoroughly examine the inside of your nose. Best regards Dr. Weiss

Based on your description of the growth and how you attempted to treat it, I believe that you may have had a viral wart.  The hole in the septum can be treated.  I would recommend that you seek a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or ENT.  Be sure to ask at the time of the consultation about his or her experience in treating septal perforations.  They can be rather challenging. Not all surgeons in either of these specialties have adequate experience to correct this problem. I would not delay too long as it may get larger and more difficult to treat.  Good luck.
