Is there a reason my gums are hurting after a chin implant? Should I downsize?

ml21_1
I got a medium chin implant with wings 4 days ago placed through an external incision and secured with sutures. I was considering going up a size because my doctor recommended a large, but I was too hesitant. I notice a lack of projection, it really made almost no difference, but my gums are hurting. The bottom set right in the front. Does this mean I’m at my maximum size for an implant? Is something wrong? Follow up appt next week, would like other docs input before I go. Thanks
