Gastric sleeve with a BMI of 32.5?

Question

I've got a BMI of 32.4, the surgeons say I don't qualify for a sleeve that instead I should go for a gastric band. I'm on medication Atripla for the rest of my life. I'm not sure about the band, will it not interfere with my medication? Thanx

Absolutely avoid any gastric band (lap band or realize). Gastric sleeve is the best choice for you with your BMI of 32.

I agree fully with the previous surgeon.  Do not even consider the band.  You will be very unhappy at the end.  A sleeve will be a great option for you.  As previously stated it will not affect absorption of your medications.  The sleeve also has a great weight loss profile and works very well in  low BMI patients such as your self.

Run, not walk from your surgeon.  Nobody should get the band.  Failure rate is high; patient satisfaction is low.  For those who don't know, Atripla is used for treatment of HIV infection.  Sleeve gastrectomy will not interfere with absorption of the medication.  If the doctor who treats your HIV agrees, you might be a good candidate for sleeve gastrectomy.
