Ive had braces for over 4 years, only to be disappointed to a severe overjet. I'm now considering getting invisalign to correct it, but will i need buttons/attachments on any of my front teeth? I feel that they are extremely noticeable and defeats the whole purpose of "invisible braces".
Answer: Buttons and Invisalignand severe overjet Sory to hear you went through four years of orthodontic treatment and are unhappy with the results. I would probably advise skipping invisalign as it is unlikely to give you the results you want.I would suggest Epigenetic Orthodontics with the DNA Appliance as it can orthopediclly grow your jaws to a better shape rather than just moving teeth.Ira L Shapira DDS, D,ABDSM, D,AAPM, FICCMOChair, Alliance of TMD Organizations

Answer: Attachments? I have been practicing Invisalign in Central Jersey for over thirteen years. In my practice, I have used attachments in almost everyone of the 3,000 cases which I have treated. Admittedly, not all of these attachments were limited to back or side teeth. However, these special attachment material that I use, is virtually undetectable.

Answer: What are attachments? Yes, if you are trying to correct overjet, the only "invisible" option with aligners would be Invisalign. Sounds like you'll be needing rubberbands, so this is the best option for you. There are other aligner companies that do not use attachments, like SmileCareClub, however these aren't appropriate for cases where you are trying to correct a bite.Another option? Lingual braces, like Incognito?Good luck! Show us photos of your new smile!

Answer: Buttons and Invisalign Buttons, otherwise called attachments, help speed and manage the movement of Invisalign therapy. Lately my patients have been asking for no attachments on their front teeth. I have planned their cases with that request in mind. I find the time frame is slightly longer. So far I have seen no difference in tooth movement. I think if you ask your Invisalign provider to not use attachments, or only use them on the side, you might be able to get what you want. On another note, you mentioned a severe overbite. I recommend you see at least five providers - getting five opinions on what to do about it. Invisalign might not give you what you want. Go to both orthodontists and general dentists who have done a lot of Invisalign cases. You will find the right person and right treatment plan for your situation that way. Good luck!
