Is "6 Month Smile" a Good Alternative to Invisalign?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

Aligners aren't ideal for every patient. Some prefer the convenience of clear braces. You don't have to remember to wear them or worry about losing them.

Six Month Smiles is the leading brand of cosmetic, short-term braces. That means, that these esthetic braces are designed to improve your front teeth or your smile cosmetically. It's different then comprehensive braces with an Orthodontist. Studies show that most adults would prefer to have braces for a short time to address their cosmetic needs, not for several years.  There's no bands or medal rings on your teeth and no metal brackets at all. Everything is white or clear, even the wires. They are invisible in photos, even!

Talk to your dentist about improving your smile and about your orthodontic options. Not all dentists are certified Six Month Smiles® providers.

Do I need my wisdom teeth pulled before starting treatment? Am I a good candidate for Smilecare club? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
For the best answers, I would consult your family dentist. He or she would have the most accurate answer, because he/she has access to your x-rays and has completed a recent thorough clinical examination.

Lucky you! If your 3rd molars are all fully erupted and healthy, you can keep them during your orthodontic treatment.

There is no clinical reason to have your existing amalgam fills switched out for composite, as long as they are intact and healthy restorations. If you are considering this for esthetic reason, you may elect this before you start your aligner treatment.

Best of luck with your new smile!

Am I a good candidate for Smile care club? (photos)

Congratulations on making the decision to improve your smile! It sounds like you've already chosen aligners over traditional brackets and wires. This is a wise choice for most adults: It's more comfortable and there's no restrictions with eating. Most importantly, your teeth and gums will stay healthier because it's easier to brush and floss.

There are many aligner products on the market. You've mentioned SmileCareClub, which is available to date, to US patients in 49 states. It's designed for patients with mild-moderate orthodontic concerns. Once you've visited your family dentist and obtained the "all clear" on your gums and teeth and completed all your dental work, you can begin!

Best of luck on your new smile!

Can I use the SmileCareClub aligners? I am missing 4 molars

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Orthodontics in conjunction with implant-space preparation is a important and complex procedure than involves close interaction and frequent communication between your family-dentist, restorative-dentist or prosthodontist (if applicable), and orthodontist.  Frequent x-rays and/or other forms of imaging may be appropriate.

Are gaps after Smile Care Club or Invisalign treatment expected? (photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Usually excessive spacing at the end of a treatment plan can be avoided by adding IPR to a treatment plan. Why don't you just ask your doctor for a modification for a more ideal outcome?

Teeth are designed to fit together like cogs on a wheel, but sometimes if a bite is off or if some teeth aren't the right size or shape, there can be excess space once you line them all up. IPR(Inter-Proximal Reduction) is one tool that doctors can use to avoid this less esthetic outcome.

Can I get SmileDirectClub if I have wisdom teeth?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
The best answer for you is to always discuss your 3rd molars with your family dentist before starting any orthodontic treatment.
Depending on their position within the bone they may or may not affect your orthodontic outcome.

I've been told not to use any whitening product with Invisalign. Is this correct or can I use the bleach gel with the aligners?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Do you have your attachments on your teeth yet? If so, it's probably not a good idea. It will give your teeth uneven whitening.

Am I eligible for Invisalign and will I need to remove any teeth? (photos)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
It doesn't look like you'll need to remove teeth. All dentists have a different philosophy when it comes to orthodontics, but teeth removal should be a last-resort, if possible.
Best of luck on your new smile!

I'm considering Smile Care Club because I can't afford Invisalign. Is there a list of consulting orthodontics?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
There are thankfully many affordable options on the market today for orthodontic treatment. SmileCareClub is one of the options for mild-to-moderate non-extraction cases.
Have you considered IPR (Inter-proximal Reduction) as an alternative to extracting a lower incisor? It's less traumatic and you can keep your dental midlines symmetrical.
Although SmileCareClub doesn't formally publish a list of providers, you will be assigned your own state-licensed provider once you join the program.
Some providers do list their affiliation on RealSelf.com. It's a great resource!
Best of luck with your new smile! Looking forward to seeing photos!

Am I a good candidate for Smile Care Club clear aligners? Any other affordable suggestions for treatment? (Photo)

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)
Thank you for taking the time to present your concern.  It sounds like you are already quite educated about your malocclusion. Open-bites are one of the hardest issues to correct in orthodontics and even when we are able to correct them, they often reoccur.

The solution to your question is to first understand the etiology, or cause, of your bite problem. This diagnosis needs to be obtained by your family dentist or medical doctor.  This could be cause by a problem with your jaw bones growing asymmetrically, a past or present oral habit (thumb-sucking), a tongue-thrusting habit when you swallow, or problems with your airway or tonsils...etc

Once you have that answer, I think you'll be better educated on the best and most long-term solution for you. RealSelf.com has a lot of dentists, orthodontists and MD's near you who can help you make the best decision for a great, new smile. As always, you'll want to make sure your family dentist has recently checked your gums and teeth and has cleared you to begin your orthodontic process!

Don't forget to wear your retainers for a lifetime to keep your smile investment beautiful forever!
