Invisalign, implant and midline shift?

I have a midline shift of my top teeth by abut 4mm.I have found a good ortho who said it can be fixed with invisalign, involving creating a gap so I can then have an implant...but it could take up to three years. I'm so nervous that it would be the longest three years of my life and while braces could do the same thing in about 18 months I cannot fathom the thought of metal in my mouth. Is what I want to know is how safe this is to have a gap created by invisalign order to put an implant in?
