Is 19 years old too young to get a breast reduction?

There is no absolute age for breast reduction.  If the breasts are causing you physical and emotional problems then a breast reduction may be the best option for you.

If you are 19 years old and your breasts are still growing then if possible you should wait until they are no longer growing for the most predictable results. Existing breast tissue can become larger after a breast reduction even if you haven't gain weight. A few of the more common reasons (besides weight gain) are use of hormones like birth control pills (even changing types) or others at the time of menopause, endocrinological problems, further normal growth if the first procedure was done at an early age, pregnancy related, and in many cases unexplained reasons. A secondary breast reduction can be performed once the cause is understood.

Thank you for your question. You seem to be a good candidate for breast reduction based on the description. What you wish to achieve is certainly possible. You should have consultations with board certified plastic surgeons to discuss the benefits and risks. 

Breast reduction can be a life changing experience in terms of resolving your symptoms of pain, discomfort and embarrassment as well as elevating your self esteem.  I have performed breast reduction on girls at your age or younger with great success.  I would usually like to be satisfied that your breasts are no longer growing and haven't increased in cup size for around 12 months.  A surgical consultation would be in your first step in determining whether or not you are an ideal candidate for surgery.

but you must be willing to accept the risks, including a diminished ability to breast feed, and the scarring that come with the procedure.  You must meet insurance minimums to get this covered by insurance and realize that you cannot be guaranteed that you will have a C cup.  If you meet or accept all of this, you can certainly pursue a reduction procedure.

At some point, you may be an excellent candidate for breast reduction surgery.  Generally speaking, the “ideal” patient for breast reduction surgery is one who presents with relatively large breasts in proportion to the remainder of her torso.  These patients often present with neck, back, shoulder discomfort, bra strap grooving, postural changes, and occasionally with rashes/infections. This operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform.
  Your next step may be in-person consultation with well experienced board certified plastic surgeons.  Ask to see lots of examples of their work and make sure you feel comfortable with the quality and consistency of the work performed. During these consultations, you may be able to see other patients ( similar to yourself) who have undergone breast reduction surgery.
Ultimately,  you will need to decide whether the “pros” ( benefits) of breast reduction surgery outweigh the potential “cons” ( potential risk/complications).  You may find the attached link helpful to you as you educate yourself about the pros/cons of the breast reduction procedure.
Then, it will be important that you communicate your goals clearly with your plastic surgeon and make sure that you have realistic expectations prior to proceeding with any type of surgery. In regards to breast size desired, also communicate carefully. In my practice the use of goal pictures are helpful in this regard; a discussion of cup size can be confusing and imprecise.   Therefore, I would not suggest that you communicate your goals and/or base your satisfaction with the outcome of surgery on achieving a specific cup size.
 I also find that the use of pictures is more helpful than the words “natural” or "proportionate” or "C cup" etc., which can mean different things to different people.
Many of my patients choose to have enough breast tissue removed to help alleviate symptoms while retaining enough breast tissue to remain proportionate to the remainder of  bare torso.

Hello and thank you for your question.In my experience, the best time for a Breast Reduction is when you are ready for it. You will know when this is the case.In general, I like to wait till about 18, more-or-less, but, really, it depends on how much the breasts worry my patient, and, if she is young, how much support she has at home, as it is a big decision. So, I do encourage parents and family to be a part of the support.Consult with a Board certified Plastic Surgeon(that's the specialisation name in the US, and referred to as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon here in Australia). That way you give yourself the opportunity to discuss this in detail with a Specialist and you give him the opportunity to do a detailed assessment and then discuss with you your options. Once you have the information from a Specialist in the field, you will be better equipped to make your decisions.I hope this has been of value for you and wish you well in your journey.

If you have the classic symptoms which sounds like you do and appropriate size based on your insurance company sure.Not likely to develop more unless large weight gain or other hormonal influence
