I have an unfinished root canal that they put cotton swabs in while we wait to finish and put the crown on. What do I do?

Hi:Normally there should be a temporary filling on top of the cotton swab so food does not get into the unfinished root canal tooth.  If the cotton swab comes out go back to your dentist right away.  If you are worried right your tooth right now, you can go back to your dentist and have him/her check it out and put a temporary filling over it.Best,Dr. Maddahi

Following a two visit root canal temporary restoration is placed after the cotton pellet unless the tooth is left to drain. If the temporary seal has come out please keep the area clean and see your dentist for followup. Sometimes the temporary filling (white color) may look spongy but it should be fairly hard.
