I had a septoplasty 2 days ago, the pain is tolerable but I still can't breathe through my nose, at all. Is this normal?

I had packing of gauze after the surgery that was removed 24 hours later, the pain was too much. I remove the splints next Sunday and I worry about the pain, is there anything I could do to minimize the pain while the splints are being taken out?

Usually the pain is very minimal after this surgery. I would keep in touch with your surgeon to make sure there are no signs of infection. I usually recommend taking one of the pain pills prior to suture or splint removal which will help. Best of luck

Hi Neeeen,In general, after removing the packing, you may feel some relief in breathing, then the swelling will commence and you will feel the blockage again making it hard for you to breathe through your nose,  but that is normal and will gradually subside over a period of 2 weeks. Please check closely however with your doctor to rule out hematoma.For the pain during splint removal, it is usually not painful, and usually, septoplasties do not need splints.
