Breast implants in a "stable" myasthenia gravis person?

Question

I am considering get breast implants, but I have myasthenia gravis. I had my thymus glad removed 10+ yrs ago. Since then I have been able to live a normal life--I even work night shift! I am low doses of prednisone and a normal dose cellcept. My neuro-ophthalmologist stated he couldn't guarantee is was safe or unsafe. Thoughts?

Hello, this disease does have varying degrees of severity but I would be concerned about patient safety doing an elective procedure on a patient with myasthenia gravis, and would definitely involve all of their medical specialists prior to considering surgery.

If your medical doctor gives you the clearance for surgery, you will probably do well. Most patients with myasthenia gravis do very well once the thymus gland has been removed. However, the decision for surgery will be first made by your neurologist and not the plastic surgeon.

Your concerns about proceeding with elective breast surgery are certainly understandable. Given that you are generally in good health, best for you to seek your neurologist's opinion about proceeding. He/she, knowing your situation much more "intimately", will be of much more help to you that online consultants will ever be.  Once you have been given the "green light", I would suggest that you select your plastic surgeon, surgery facility, and anesthesiologist extremely carefully. Best wishes.
