There are many reasons for hair loss. Genetics, hormones, anemia, stress, low thyroid, inflammation, etc. Without a thorough in person examination, it's impossible to know why have been losing hair. In the case of some types of shedding, it is a temporary increase in the telogen phase of the hair cycle and many people recover a majority of their hair.
