Rogaine in telogen effluvium - why?

my doctor diagnosed me as chronic telogen effluvium, prescribed anivagen ampoules and rogaine. what is the role of rogaine in my case? does it really cause buffiness and wrinkles ? can i withdraw it later? or will my hair be dependent? i have severe active shedding now but really afraid to use it.

Yes, if you use Rogaine, you will need to continue its use or you will lose your results, Keep in mind, there will be an increase in hair shedding when you first start using it. I suggest seeing a hair loss expert now to evaluate and go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options and any concerns you may have. There is alot of myths and poor understanding of the hair shedding condition known as chronic telogen effluvium. It is fundamentally a hair shedding condition and can stop eventually. It is what we call a self limited condition. By definition, if a condition is self limited - one need not use a treatment for the condition life long. So the answer your question - if you truly have CTE, your hair does not become dependent in the drug. Please see a specialist if you are not sure. CTE is frequently misdiagnosed.

I believe that minoxidil is often prescribed for CTE because there is little that can be done and minoxidil does often grown some additional hair, albeit small hairs most of the time
