How much percentage of the fat cells survive after a bbl? Is 35 a good age to get it , or is it late? Does pregnancy affect the results in any way
Answer: Getting a BBL. In reality, most plastic surgeons do not know what percentage of fat survives after fat transfer. Most plastic surgeons give estimates based on their clinical opinion or best guess. Clinical research has shown a high degree of variation when the subject is carefully studied. In the end there are generally only two variables that matter. The first is the patient’s candidacy for the procedure and the second is the skill inexperience of the provider. Younger patients tend to be better candidates than older patients for both liposuction and fat transfer. It’s a gradual spectrum. Generally speaking patients over the age 50 tend to have significantly diminished liposuction results compared to younger patients because of loss of skin elasticity with age. The best candidates for the procedure tend to be patients in the early 20s without pregnancy related changes who have tight skin and modest excess subcutaneous fat in undesirable areas. The great majority of patients seeking liposuction and fat transfer, are neither perfect, nor non-candidates. Most patience fall somewhere on a spectrum between the two. Determining some candidacy for the procedure is fairly complex and involved. There are a lot of variables to take in the consideration. Skin laxity tense to lessen peoples candidacy for the procedure both in regards to Liposuction outcomes and fat transfer results. The number of plastic surgeons have truly mastered liposuction and fat. Transfer is quite small. There is a high degree of variation among plastic surgeons to do this type of work. Likewise, not everybody seeking Liposuction and fat transfer are good candidates for the procedure. Pregnancy related changes generally lessen someone’s candidacy for both liposuction and fat transfer. To get a better understanding of your candidacy, and what the procedure can, or cannot accomplish, I suggest having multiple in person, consultations with plastic surgeons in your community. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients, who had similar body characteristics to your own. Period Always confirmed the timeframe of when after pictures were taken for fat transfer. Recognize that early fat transfer results can look very impressive, but do not necessarily represent long-term final outcomes. After picture should be taken at least 3 to 6 months from the date of the procedure in order to be representative. And experience plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images, representing only the best results of a providers career, maybe insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider, what your results are likely to look like or how many of these procedures they’ve actually done. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you have the more likely you are to find the better provider. The biggest mistake patients make is having only one consultation Which basically eliminates the ability to choose the better provider. I generally recommend people avoid virtual consultations whenever possible and always schedule in person consultations as being preferable. I generally do not recommend people travel along distances for elective surgical procedures, unless necessary. Best, Matt Hagstrom, MD
