My Aviclear Story
Mine is a story more targeted at women on birth control to control acne. I had mild acne before BC, but BC helped to clear it. I started taking it at 19 years old. I took it until I was 30. I went off BC because it was starting to really mess with my emotions, my body, my cycle, etc. and I was sick of it. I’d tried a handful of different pills, but they all were problematic in some way. Ick your poison, right? Ugh.
So, I went off of it. Then I got the BIG ol’ cystic acne, and the sebhorretic dermatitis, and the rosacea. At 30 years old (I’m now 39) embarrassing to say the least. And I’m single, so that really crushes confidence.
I tried it all with my Derm, the antibiotics/Spironolactone/Doxycycline (didn’t work, worse side effects than BC) and the creams (Trentonin, Retinols, etc.). It all made my skin sooooo parched and dry it was hard to wear makeup. So, my Derm basically said BC is probably your “safest” bet to controlling this again. I went back on BC 5 years ago. And once again, experienced all the crazy side effects, but hey my skin was mostly clear. Then, it started not to be again, while on BC. I’d had enough. I don’t remember exactly how I found info on Aviclear last November, but I did. And I had done IPL’s in the past that worked wonders on my rosacea. So, I was intrigued. I read as much as I could find about it, but it was still relatively new. Within 2 months I decided it was time to try it and do it while I was on BC, then go off it after my sessions were complete. So in Jan 2023, I had my first session. Now, at the Derm I went to in Beverly Hills, they actually did numbing cream on me first (which they cleaned off crazy well) and thank god they did. I felt what that thing was like without, and I find it hilarious they say it doesn’t hurt. It does burn and with the cooling piece it is crazy jarring when they place and zap.
But I did my 3 sessions and was ready to wait and see if it was worth the money. It was the most I’d ever spent on my skin treatment at one time, but if it worked, it would save me as much in Acne meds.
Well, I’m just over 6 months since my last treatment, and 4 months off BC. So far, only a couple small pimples, and definitely no large cysts. We will see how it progresses as I stay off BC and get farther out from my last treatment, but if it stays this way, this is a GAME CHANGER for women in my situation. I’d even be willing to do a “touch up” session every year or two if it meant my skin stayed this way! Thank you, Aviclear!
