Not even 3 weeks post op and am over the moon with results

I'm 4 days post op and slightly uncomftorable, no pain, but I'm really worried about this tape holding my tip. My only post op instructions were to use hydrogen peroxide and ointment with a q-tip as needed. I am so congested still breathing through mouth and feel like I am supposed to be using a spray or saline wash? And should I be worried about this piece of tape being stuck over my...

CoolSculpting of the Abdomen

For as long as I can remember, I have had stubborn fat to the lower abdominal area after having 3 children. I chose to do the CoolSculpting Treatment as it is non-invasive and has no downtime. The staff made me feel extremely comfortable in addressing my concerns. I am certain that my treatment will restore my confidence once again! I'm ready to book my next session!!!!

Q: What is the cause for fat and volume loss after a BBL?
Answered by Dr. David HolcombOctober 22, 2018

A: Dear AD17,

BBL/IPL treatment should not cause significant changes in facial volume - at least this is not among the well known complications and side effects of this type of light treatment.  Certainly unusual outcomes can occur but loss of facial fat volume may more likely be the result of something else (e.g. radio frequency treatments, metabolic changes).  Elevated temperature certainly does induce fat emulsification and fat cell destruction (lipolysis) but both the temperature and length of time required for this to happen are not achieved during typical BBL/IPL treatment sessions.

Q: Which filler is best for the treatment of under eye tear troughs?
Answered by Dr. David HolcombNovember 25, 2017

A: Thank you for your question.

The injector's technique and choice of product do make a difference here. It is important to distinguish where the volume loss is anatomically – mostly at and above the orbital rim, mostly below the orbital rim, or both.  For patients with slight hollowing at/above the orbital rim a softer product such as Belotero Balance is ideal while for patients with deeper hollowing below the orbital rim (this is the mid face) a heavier product such as Voluma is much more effective.

Q: Where Exactly is Botox Injected in Order to Create a Browlift?
Answered by Dr. David HolcombNovember 21, 2017

A: Thank you for your question.

Creating the “chemical brow lift” effect with neuromodulator injections (e.g. Botox Cosmetic, Dysport) is not possible for all patients.  The chemical brow lift occurs when the balance between brow depressor and brow elevator muscles is shifted in favor of the latter.  This works best in patients with very little actual ptosis (sagging) of the brows but both hyperactive brow depressor muscles and reasonably strong brow elevator muscles.  The key to success is appropriately reducing the hyperactive brow depressor muscle activity while also preserving enough brow elevator muscle activity.  So this means adequate injections of the eleven line area (procerus and corrugators), lateral brows and upper crows feet (orbicularis) and, if the horizontal forehead lines are to be targeted, it is important to preserve the ability to elevate the brows.

Q: I had my lips injected today with Juvederm and am wondering if appearance is due to swelling?
Answered by Dr. David HolcombNovember 21, 2017

A: Thank you for your question.

Lip swelling after filler injections is common.  Swelling is typically more significant with greater trauma (more needle sticks, more filler volume) - both of these can be minimized by using micro-cannulas and conservative filler volumes.  Occasionally there may be more swelling and bruising on one side – even with the best injection techniques and identical injection volumes side to side so to your question it’s too early to tell.  Cold compresses (for the initial several hours after injection), elevation of the head while sleeping and time (for resolution of the acute swelling and for the filler to settle) are needed.  The good news is that if there is some asymmetry it can be corrected by either adding more filler to the other side or by reducing the bulkiness on the affected side with an enzyme injection (e.g. Hylenex).

Q: Post Juvederm Bruising- How Long Will It Last? Can I Speed Healing?
Answered by Dr. David HolcombNovember 21, 2017

A: Thank you for your question.

Topical Arnica Montana containing products generally help.  Certain laser treatments such as the excel V 532 nm KTP can also have a dramatic and almost immediate benefit by lightening the bruises several shades within minutes – we do this for post-surgical and post-injection patients routinely – generally a single session but the treatment can be repeated if necessary.
