I see CDS does not have many reviews here on RS- so I'm here to help change that! I am 3 months in to a two-step procedure to replace my many many teeth that had degraded after younger years spent suffering from bulimia and even more years of maltreatment. It got to the point that every other year I'd have to have another terrible root canal or extraction. Now that I'm financially sound with great insurance; I began looking in to fixing the work here at home, only to find that they want nearly 3-5k per tooth for the molar implants I needed. The thought of spending enough to pay for a mid-size SUV just to chew properly seemed so wrong, and discouraging. This was AFTER insurance covered nearly half. I looked in to options and had settled on an implantologist in Costa Rica- and then COVID hit and that option was gone. I looked in to Mexico ignoring the many thoughts and comments regarding my need to proceed with caution and concerns of sanitation and safety. I cam across CDS on Google with their many reviews and then it dawned on me. I could actually still have a solid vacation while getting my much needed work done... no reason to settle for a less than ideal trip to the border towns of MX! After spending many hours looking through their reviews and the work they had performed I reached out and started a consultation. They were very helpful with the entire process. The care coordinators Greg Sanchez and Gabriel assisted me with all of my online consults and answered my ?'s before we headed down. I sent down old X-Rays and they gave me a rough quote with the understanding they would have a final estimate once they'd seen me in person. The location is in a small mall on the strip and VERY busy. I was so used to a dental office looking so "medical" that I did get a little nervous at the quality at first! When I got in the rooms for X-rays and work though, I was so impressed by their state of the art equipment. I haven't seen some of the equipment in the many nice offices I've been in here in Minneapolis. I flew down end of October I ended up needing 4 extractions, a bone graft, 4 implants with a bridge on each side, a root canal, 2 crowns, and 18 fillings. Yikes.. I know! The worst pain was from the fillings, but that dentist was an absolute angel and SO gentle. My mouth was just jacked! Seriously- the bone graft and actual implants were so easy and painless! The oral surgeon was so talented! Everyone from the care coordinators, the receptionists, the oral surgeon, the endodontist, periodontist and their assistants were AMAZING! They have been so kind in taking time to explain details and make sure that I am ok. Everyone spoke clear English when I had questions and were very easy to understand! They even have drivers that arrange for your airport transportation and pick-up/ drop-off to your hotel! I will say that I did have some noticeable swelling for the rest of my trip. Again, the 18 fillings and all the drilling is what I think really was causing the most pain. I had to "stay ahead" of it and consistently take my pain killers otherwise my whole jaw and head would throb severely and I'd have to go back to the room to rest. I was thankful that we were all stuck in masks because otherwise I would not have enjoyed venturing in to public looking like I had a case of the mumps! This is something to take in to consideration if you're thinking you will be able to enjoy the entire trip without noticing you're having major dental work done ( wishful thinking right!) I have to let my bone grafts and implants heal for a total of 6 months before I return in late April to get my abutments and bridge implants affixed. I cannot wait to finally be able to chew normally. I will post an update at that time of the finished product. Updated on 3 May 2021: Just got back from finishing up the new implants. I ended up needing to remove a crown they’d done and have a root canal. The new teeth turned out pretty good. The front molar on my left side feels a tad big (and is a tad bigger than the right side) but I am not really concerned by it. They feel weird to chew on but the fact that I can chew is what matters most to me! I had them done in a few shades whiter because I want to have my whitened soon. The dentist who handled inserting the new teeth said whitening doesn’t do much and told me I’d be best off with veneers- not sure I want to throw another 9k in my mouth for a perfect white smile. All in all I am satisfied. The downside was the clinic is such a mill. Everyone works so hard- but you may be waiting hours some days and have more trips back than what you’d expect. I ended up having to go in 4 different days and some of them were for nothing more than initial exam or doing imprints for the new teeth. Much better ways I can think to spend the time on vacation, but I am still very grateful to have new teeth and a healthy mouth finally! Spent $4,180 this round to finalize the crowns, abutments, root canal, etc.
I am writing this review because I have not seen any information or experience written by a single woman who is traveling by herself. We are all aware that couples have it easier since you get treated differently since there is another person there for support. I choose CDC after going back and forth with several clinics and just got overwhelmed with all of the different quotes. Some were so cheap that I raised an eyebrow and some were as high as in the US for the All on 4 or 6 implants for upper and lower. A little about myself, I am a single hard-working mother who works in the health care field and does a lot of teaching engagements. I am in my early 40ies and went through a traumatic experience that causes my teeth loss in the upper. A year ago my dentist suggested to get implants and because I wanted to get back a nice Hollywood smile that I had in the past he convinced me to remove all lower so both arches will match and I can actually go back with the shape of teeth that I had previously before my accident. Well just like a lot of us, I trusted his suggestion and he gave me a small ballpark on the cost. Sure enough after the removal and four months later, I received a quote that was just not what we had previously discussed. I was devasted, started going into depression, and researched for a long time to find a solution that would fit my budget. I looked in the US and Costa Rica first. Then decided to go with Cancun since I need a break and looking at the ocean would do me some good right now. Working in health care is hard and I also have been working two jobs at times for the last three years just to save up for implants. I decided on Cancun Dental Specialist because of the background and the reviews. Right now my rating is a middle range because I am confused since I got two different staff members that reached out to me as pick up at the airport and I am scared as hell since I don't know who is the right person I am supposed to get in the car with. I am a single woman traveling so it is not simply just to jump in a man car that I can not even verify if they work at the clinic. Today it is Sunday and I am flying out Wednesday at 6 am. I will update this review as time goes and will be as honest as possible. I asked to get more information as far as who is going to do my procedure and if they can send me something in writing to keep the cost under $20000. I have not heard back and therefore made a plan B just to be safe. I will ask them to record a video while I get the procedure done so I can maybe help other people who are traveling solo to have a better idea of what experience I had in Cancun. Wish me luck and stay tuned for updates. Updated on 9 Nov 2020: Called them today and told them that I would prefer to get more detailed information and they assured me that I will get a call back this afternoon and more information via email. So let's hope everything goes well. I am slowly getting nervous and I am not sure if I did the right thing with booking an all-inclusive hotel when I can probably not eat afterward. Updated on 23 Nov 2020: So happy go for it , it changed my life. It does not hurt and your self esteem goes up 10000% . I promise you that Updated on 21 Jan 2021: Updated on 9 Mar 2021: Still happy with my decision but notice a slight space between the implants that is thank god not noticeable. Biting the cheeks stopped and I wear a mouth guard at night. Slight speech problems are gone and cleaning is easier now. I can eat well and don’t have any problems and therefore forget that I even have implants.
I had 4 root canals, and 6 crowns done. I went to Mexico for dental treatment because I was led to believe I needed 12 implants (long story, but my regular dentist was ‘on the fence’ between recommending root canals or implants, specialist said implants). Anyway, after a 3D scan (identical to machine my local oral surgeon uses), she said root canals with only 1 implant. A year and a half later, and all work done at CDS is still doing well. I had the bone graft for implant done by local oral surgeon (because of necessary healing time). The office even filled out my insurance forms (we are covered at any licensed dentist, regardless of location), and I ultimately saved about $6,000 compared to having work done at home. I just booked another trip to Cancun to have work done, and although I have serious “dental fear”, I’m not worried about the quality of work from the staff at CDS.
About a year ago I underwent a dental procedure at the CDS that involved placing some bone graft material. What happened during a procedure and afterward had become a life-changing nightmare for me. My problem was related to the fact that incorrect bone graft material (synthetic) was used during my surgery which under no circumstance should have been used in any dental procedure for me, as my body is not bio-compatible with synthetic bone grafts, and placing the latter into my body would guarantee any dental work to fail. In preparation for my visit to the CDS clinic, I had taken every conceivable precaution to prevent a possibility of such an outcome and many times brought this information to the attention of the CDS doctors. However, all my efforts were ignored and disregarded, and, eventually, a synthetic bone graft was used in my surgery without me being aware of this fact. When after my surgery at the CDS the inevitable happened - my body started rejecting the synthetic bone graft, seeking help, I tried to reach out to the DCS healthcare professionals asking for help but never got a response from any of them. Long story short, to correct the results of the medical negligence of the CDS doctors I had to undergo multiple follow-up surgeries to clean up the rejected synthetic bone graft and the debris of the inflamed/dead bone that was impacted by this process. As a consequence, right now I am suffering not only from chronic pain but have to deal with a suffered injury - a permanent disfiguring of the bone ridge and gum line (see the picture attached) that are impossible to restore now and what could and should have been absolutely avoided. When I submitted my complaint to the clinic, nobody responded. It was ignored the same way as were my previous requests for help when I was suffering from inflammation. Until I posted a negative Google review, they did not even bother to contact me in any way. Please think twice before you decide to get your dental work done at this place. Stay away from this clinic if you want to save your time, money, and most importantly your health.
