Dermapen

As an adolescent I struggled with acne. I, like many of us, got through it (acne free) but the physical scars still remain. I was always told I wasn’t a candidate for laser or even deep chemical peels due to hyperpigmentation, since I have Olive skin. So I just accepted I’d have thee scars for the rest of my life. Thankfully I heard about Avalon laser and they recommend Dermapen (micro-needles) that penetrate the dermis and help break up the scar tissue. After my first session I saw a MAJOR difference. Laura Welk, the physician who worked on me is an Angel. Laura is professional, informative and really cares about her clients skin care needs! Thanks Laura, see you again in November. I’ll keep you guys posted on my next 2 sessions. Updated on 18 Oct 2018: Unfortunately as the collagen and swelling decrease I have noticed my scars visibility is beginning to show. Overall I do see a improvement in my skin texture, but even after the max 2.5 mm microneedle the scars are still present. Two more sessions so I’m still hopeful. Updated on 9 Dec 2018: At the end of my 3 sessions I did see a huge improvement in my skins overall texture. However, the reason I shelled out $1,000 dollars was to significantly reduce/eliminate my acne scarring. Knowing what I know now; I wish I just purchased the dermapen and did it myself. I met an esthetician who advised me to watch a tutorial video; I purchased the dermapen for close to $300 compared to $1,000.I can I administer the treatments once a month in tandem with a good skin serum. I’ll keep up with dermapen treatments but I will no longer be paying for them. Thank you guys for the support and good luck to all of you!

Melasma Sufferers Rejoice!

I have never had skin issues. Then, the summer of 2018 hit and everything went wrong. I started getting brown blotches on the middle of my forehead. Come to find out, I had melasma. I wasn’t pregnant so it was crazy I started getting it. It has been a long, hard battle ever since. Avalon Laser suggested the Clear and Brilliant laser treatment. It is pricey- $450 per treatment, but a discount for 3 treatments (which honestly, 3 is needed to really see great results). It was definitely worth the money! There is also very little downtime, which is great! I have had 4 treatments so far the past 2 years and about to do my 5th. The first 3 I did 4-6 weeks apart (which is better). I’ve also done all of them in the fall/winter after the summer months affect the skin. I will likely at least get one clear and brilliant treatment after summer forever. The appointment takes 45-1 hour. They first numb your face. Then go back and forth on areas of the face with a laser multiple times. It’s not painful at all. After, your skin is red for a few hours. After that, your skin looks pretty normal for a couple days, but eventually starts to get a sandpaper texture. You can’t tell by looking at someone though, which is good. You can wear makeup the next day even. However, I try to avoid it for a few days to a week because of chemicals and removing the makeup. You can really see the results after a week or two. It was a miracle worker for me! Now, this battle never ends and I’m by no means where I want to be, but come a long way! It made me really start taking good care of my skin and it’s important to have a good at home routine in addition to this treatment. I wear Etna SPF 50 every day and lots of hats in the summer. I also use vitamin C (skin cueticals is pricey but works well) and definitely hydroquinone. Ask your derm for a stronger dose and you can also get some mixed with kojic acid and other good things.
