DIEP/SIEA Reconstruction after Mastectomy & Radiation3 years ago, I met this wonderful Breast Cancer patient. She had Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy (Chemo before surgery) and then chose mastectomy for definitive disease control.First, she had LYMPHA after Axillary Node Dissection- this pre-emptive lymphatic reconstruction reduces (but doesnt eliminate) the risk for lymphedema.Second, she had radiation therapy.Third, a year after the Radiation, she had two Free Flaps for right breast reconstruction- a DIEP Flap and an SIEA Flap. These procedures moved healthy, non-radiated tissue onto the right chest.Fourth, she had Breast Revision Surgery, including Nipple Reconstruction and Breast Lift on her healthy side.Shes a wonderful example of how a multi-year, staged surgery can produce great results!Shes 3 years from LYMPHA, 15 months from DIEP/SIEA, and 4 months from revisions in the photos.
