NuEra Tight by Lumenis is an FDA-cleared, noninvasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy (RF) to smooth skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Treatment is painless and involves few side effects as well as minimal downtime.

The treatment works by delivering controlled heat that causes the contraction of collagen, the protein fiber that provides support to the skin, and stimulates the body’s production of fresh, new collagen. This leaves it looking smoother and firmer.

NuEra Tight can be used to precisely heat both superficial tissue closer to the surface and the skin's deeper levels. This makes it possible to personalize the treatment for each patient and treat any body area, from the delicate eye area to the thicker skin on the upper arms, back, abdomen, flanks, thighs, and buttocks.

NuEra Tight can treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Cellulite
  • Sagging skin on the arms, abdomen, buttocks, and inner and outer thighs
  • A double chin
  • Skin laxity around the eyes, mouth, cheeks, neck, and jawline
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

RealSelf Tip: NuEra isn’t FDA-cleared fat reduction in the U.S., but it is cleared for it elsewhere—and some doctors in the U.S. use it off label to simultaneously smooth skin and reduce fat. “In my hands, NuEra is the most effective pain-free device for body-circumference reduction and skin tightening at the same time,” says Dr. Macrene Alexiades, a dermatologist in New York City who’s completing a randomized trial in the use of NuEra technology for this purpose.

Pros

  • NuEra Tight firms and smooths skin on all areas of the face and the body.
  • It's safe for all skin tones, without a risk of causing excess pigmentation.
  • The treatment can be personalized for each patient, with five frequencies that control the depth of penetration.
  • The treatment is quick—10 to 25 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
  • For most patients, the treatment is painless, with temperature-controlled technology reduces the risk of side effects like bruising and blistering.
  • Some people see firmer, smoother skin after a single treatment session.
  • There’s no downtime or recovery, and you can return to your usual routine the same day.
  • It can improve the results of other body contouring treatments, such as CoolSculpting and liposuction.

Cons

  • Multiple treatments—namely four to six, at one- to two-week intervals—are recommended, for optimal results.
  • Results aren’t permanent and need to be maintained, with touch-ups every three to six months.

RealSelf Tip: Avoid this procedure if you're pregnant, have active infections, or have recently had injectable fillers in the treatment area (the heat can lessen their duration).

The treatment is painless (no numbing cream or anesthesia required) and fast, taking around 10–15 minutes to treat facial areas and up to 25 minutes to treat areas of the body.

After a gel is applied to the treated area, your provider moves the NuEra Tight electrode handpiece over the skin's surface in a slow sweeping or circular fashion so that it gradually and uniformly heats the skin to the target temperature. NuEra Tight uses temperature control technology that automatically adjusts the RF output for precise heating throughout the treatment.

As the device gradually heats the skin's surface and deep tissue, you'll feel a warming sensation that’s often likened to a hot stone massage.

The absorption of energy into the skin may cause it to look slightly red and swollen. This typically resolves within a few hours.

Improvement may be seen after one or two sessions, and benefits will continue to occur gradually. Your provider will recommend the right treatment plan for optimal results, but an initial course of treatments (four to six sessions) is typically recommended.

Results will continue to improve for up to six months after the last treatment. Final results are maintained with touch-ups, at least twice a year.
