Neocutis is a medical-grade skin-care line rooted in extensive wound-healing research performed in Switzerland. The discovery of processed skin cell proteins (PSP) led to the development of products that were first used to scarlessly heal burned skin. After seeing that the treated skin also looked healthier and more youthful, the Swiss scientists applied the same principles to improve the appearance and health of aging skin.

The Neocutis product line highlights human growth factors and proprietary peptides to stimulate the production of key skin components—collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid—while nourishing and hydrating skin. “This is the go-to line for the prevention and healing of scars and burns as well as the reduction of lines and wrinkles,” says Nashville dermatologic surgeon Dr. Michael Gold

Neocutis products can also help improve outcomes from skin rejuvenation treatments and other aesthetic procedures. In particular, the wound-healing properties of the popular Bio Cream moisturizer can help minimize surgical scarring. “I think the Neocutis Bio Cream is my preference for a ‘scar’ cream to put on the face and, specifically, the incisions after a facelift,” says Houston plastic surgeon Dr. James Boynton. “This is the first and original skin-care cream formulated with a protein blend including human growth factors and cytokines for state-of-the-art skin revitalization. I have been amazed at how it helps the incisions heal faster.”

Neocutis also offers a specific post-procedure product, called Aftercare Post-Treatment Soothing Cream. Designed to calm and hydrate healing skin, it can be used immediately after ablative and non-ablative laser treatments and procedures like microneedling and chemical peels.

Pros

  • Neocutis was founded after years of research at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, so it has ample scientific evidence and development to back its claims.
  • There are many studies to support the efficacy of human growth factors as an anti-aging skin-care ingredient. For instance, one found a 25–33% improvement in wrinkles after six months, while another reported a 10–18% improvement in skin texture after two months.
  • Neocutis’ post-procedure skin cream, Aftercare, may hasten the wound healing process in elective surgical procedures like blepharoplasty, according to research. The cream can be applied to treated areas immediately after a procedure or as directed by your provider.
  • The products are suitable for all skin types and tones.

Cons

  • There’s been some controversy around the ingredients. PSP, the combination of human growth factors and cytokines that powers Neocutis products, is derived from fetal cells that were originally sourced from a biopsy donated to the University Hospital of Lausanne after a terminated pregnancy. The cells from this sample were then duplicated and used for wound healing, to treat injuries like burns. Neocutis uses proteins from these duplicated cells.
  • Because it’s a medical-grade line, Neocutis skin-care products can be very expensive.
  • Some RealSelf members have said that the results don’t merit the hefty price tag. “If you buy this, perhaps you’ll just need to adjust your expectations somewhat. While I’m not comfortable with saying this has provided absolutely no improvement, I do question whether the small improvement justifies the cost,” says one RealSelf review.

Neocutis skin-care products are designed to fight the visible signs of aging. As is the case with most skin-care lines, it has its standouts.

  • Neocutis Bio Cream Overnight Smoothing Cream ($160 for 1.69 fl. oz.) is the hero of the Neocutis line. It contains the growth factors, antioxidants, and peptides that revive skin and increase firmness, brightness, and elasticity. The skin cream can be used in combination with topical prescription medications like retinoids to further improve the appearance of fine lines. It’s also available in an intensively moisturizing formulation, Neocutis Bio Cream Riche.
  • Neocutis Journée Revitalizing Day Cream SPF 30 ($189 for 1.69 fl. oz.) offers four benefits in one formula: PSP growth factors, antioxidants, broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen, and hydration.
  • Neocutis Hyalis+ Intensive Hydrating Serum ($120 for 1 fl. oz.) is a lightweight serum containing several forms of hyaluronic acid. A potent humectant that attracts 1,000 times its weight in water, hyaluronic acid moisturizes and plumps skin. The serum can be used either by itself or under a cream or lotion for a hydration boost.
  • Neocutis Lumière Illuminating Eye Cream ($97 for 0.5 fl. oz.) pairs the proprietary growth factors with hyaluronic acid and antioxidants, to target crow’s feet, puffiness, and dark circles. Those with dry skin may benefit from the extra moisturizing formula, Neocutis Lumière Riche.
  • Neocutis Bio Serum Intensive Anti-Aging Treatment ($235 for 1 fl. oz.) has the highest concentration of growth factors out of all the Neocutis products, to firm, smooth, and hydrate skin.
  • Neocutis Bio Gel Moisturizing Hydrogel ($178 for 1.69 fl. oz.) is an oil-free moisturizer formulated for oily and acne-prone skin. It combines growth factors, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin in a lightweight, hydrating gel.
  • Neocutis Reactive+ Anti-Oxidant Serum & Broad-Spectrum SPF 45 ($130 for 1 fl. oz) protects skin against environmental stress, including free radicals and sun exposure, with vitamin C and sunscreen.

The brand has also developed products that address specific skin concerns, including:

  • Neocutis Nouvelle+ Retinol Correction Cream ($150 for 1 fl. oz.) for improved skin tone and clarity
  • Neocutis Perle Skin Brightening Cream ($115 for 1 fl. oz.) with MELAPLEX for skin discoloration
  • Neocutis Peche Redness Control ($105 for 1 fl. oz.) with ROSAPLEX for redness and rosacea
  • Neocutis Neo Firm Neck and Décolleté Tightening Cream ($135 for 1.69 fl. oz) for anti-aging below the face

You can often find Neocutis at dermatology and plastic surgery practices, as well as medspas by way of the company’s physician finder. Neocutis can also be purchased at authorized online retailers.
