This Month in Aesthetics: Selena Gomez Reveals What She’s Done to Her Face, Kim Kardashian Shows Off Her $1,120 Mask Routine, Sia Gets Lipo, and More

Every month, we strive to bring you a balanced mix of breaking news (for instance, Oprah’s admission that she’s on a weight-loss medication) and advice you can always use, like the latest regenerative medicine ingredients to look for. Invariably though, there’s an intriguing headline or viral post that doesn’t make its own stand-alone story yet is still worthy of a share.

Which brings us here, to the latest installment of This Month in Aesthetics, an ICYMI recap of industry-molding moments that we’d be remiss not to acknowledge—from an update on Teddi Mellencamp’s skin cancer to which celeb asked for plastic surgery for Christmas.

Sia explains why she recently got liposuction

In a post on X, singer Sia announced that she’d gotten liposuction after taking a new medication. It “made me put on a lot of weight that I just can’t shift with exercise or thyroid meds, so I went in for lipo today,” she wrote. “Please know that I am so lucky to have the resources to change the way I look and that when you see me looking crazy foxy again (🤪) that I want you to know it did not come from diet and exercise.” Sia has long been up-front about her plastic surgery procedures, having given her plastic surgeon, Dr. Ben Talei, a shout-out for her facelift earlier this year.

Selena Gomez responds to an Instagram critic about the work she’s had done

Not only has the singer and actress debuted a new boyfriend (producer Benny Blanco), but she’s also making the brave (if questionable) decision to respond to trolls in the comment section of an Instagram post announcing the relationship. Replying to a suggestion that she should remove her “cheek filler/implant,” she replied: “Hahahaha I’ve had Botox bb girl”—seemingly confirming that fillers are not yet on the table.

Amanda Bynes opens up about her eyelid surgery

Actress Amanda Bynes recently took to her new Instagram account to post a story about her blepharoplasty in order to clear up rumors about her appearance. “I was never open about this before, but I actually had blepharoplasty surgery on the skin folds in the corners of my eyes,” she said. “It was one of the best things I could have done for my self-confidence, and it made me feel a lot better in my skin.”

Kim Kardashian shares the at-home treatment she’s “obsessed” with

On Christmas, Kardashian posted an Instagram Story of herself with three different LED masks on: the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask ($380), Omnilux Contour Neck & Décolleté ($395), and Omnilux Contour Glove ($345). “Face, neck and hand red lights for the win!” she wrote, adding: “I’m obsessed with these I gave them as gifts this year #NotAnAd.” Red LED light can help increase collagen production, repair damage, and reduce inflammation, but if you’re thinking about getting a mask for yourself, check out this guide first.

Dolly Parton reveals the plastic surgery complications that kept her from going back to work in the past

The country singer, who famously said, “If something is bagging, sagging, or dragging, I’ll tuck it, suck it, or pluck it,” has always been refreshingly honest about her cosmetic work. When asked in a recent interview with Saga Magazine whether she regrets any procedures she’s gotten, Parton said, “Every now and then you’ll get a hematoma, or sometimes with fillers and Botox you can get too much and have to wait till the swelling goes down to look normal again. It means that instead of being back at work in two weeks, it’s a month.”

A hematoma is a bad bruise that occurs when an injury causes blood to collect and pool under the skin. Pain and swelling are common symptoms, and it can take weeks for hematomas to go away, but they’re typically not cause for concern after surgery. However, if you’re experiencing more than mild bruising after filler or Botox injections, it’s a good idea to talk to your injector.

Real Housewives of New Jersey star Jennifer Fessler shares her scary Ozempic side effect

On an episode of her Two Jersey Js podcast (which she cohosts with Jackie Goldschneider), the Real Housewives of New Jersey star admitted to taking weight-loss medication—putting her among the many celebrities on GLP-1 agonists. She shared that she’s been taking semaglutide (the compound behind Ozempic and Wegovy) and has already lost more than 20 pounds. It hasn’t been without side effects though. “I’m not afraid of Ozempic, and I will tell you I have had an experience that was not good—and I’m pretty positive it was about the semaglutide—where I had to go to the hospital for an impacted bowel,” says Fessler.

Victoria Beckham isn’t ready to talk about her breast surgeries with her daughter

Victoria Beckham is among the many celebs who’ve had their breast implants removed (following years of denial that she had them in the first place). Right now though, she’s staying mum about her experience around her daughter, Harper. “If I’m honest, I wish I’d never [gotten implants]. It was a moment in time, and I think I can share my experiences with her,” she said in a new interview. “But we’re not there just yet.”

Plastic surgery is on Kelly Osbourne’s wish list for the holidays

Despite mom Sharon’s well-publicized regrets, Kelly declared on a recent installment of The Osbournes Podcast that she wants plastic surgery for Christmas—which she said while patting her neck with her hands, indicating her potential target. “Well, I just think it’s my time,” she said in response to her parents’ clear disdain at the announcement.

Charlie Sheen plans to address his “turkey gobbler” neck with plastic surgery

After seeing himself on-screen for his guest-star turn on the Max comedy series Bookie, the actor pointed to his neck as a source of insecurity. “I’m looking at it, and I look like when a really heavy person loses all the weight and their neck is still kind of a… turkey gobbler,” he said in an interview, calling it “saggy” and “flappy.” Rather than stew about it, he immediately reached out to a plastic surgeon for a consultation. “So I see this on Monday night, and Tuesday morning, I’m on the phone with a doctor, scheduling this thing,” he said.

Heidi Montag denies using Ozempic

It’s not Ozempic—it’s Hydroxycut, according to reality star Heidi Montag, along with “hard work,” as she put it on a recent podcast. “I’m not looking for a magic wand. I like to do the hard work,” she said. “It’s just nothing I would ever do. There’s no shortcuts in life.”

Immunotherapy treatment didn’t work for Real Housewife Teddi Mellencamp’s skin cancer

Teddi Mellencamp, a former cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, shared in an Instagram post that topical immunotherapy treatment wasn’t successful for treating her stage 2 melanoma. (Immunotherapy harnesses the body’s immune system to attack cancer cells.) “I had a wide excision removal on my most recent melanoma last week to see if it did and sadly it did not,” she wrote in an Instagram post, noting that she’s exploring new options, including surgery. “I have faith all will be ok and that the reason this is happening to me is because I am able to raise awareness.”
