Moxi is a fractionated laser that targets pigment by creating tiny perforations in the superficial top layer of skin.
These microinjuries stimulate the dermal repair process, revitalizing tone and texture and reducing the appearance of brown and red spots caused by sun damage or aging. “It’s one of the gentlest fractional laser treatments on the market,” says Los Gatos, California, dermatologist Dr. Steven Swengel, “which allows for a very quick and easy recovery.”   Â
Safe for all skin types and tones, the Moxi laser has three energy settings, to allow for customized treatment.
The ideal candidate is interested in preventing and reducing signs of aging rather than dramatically correcting skin concerns. Moxi is also a good option for anyone looking to maintain their results after a more aggressive laser treatment.
Moxi laser treatment is a quick, “lunchtime” procedure that can be done in less than 30 minutes. here's what to expect:
There’s practically no recovery or downtime associated with Moxi.
According to Dr. Robb, your skin will be pink and feel tingly (like from a sunburn) afterward, but that will go away in a few hours. Dr. Swengel recommends that patients turn up the AC all the way and point the vents toward their face on the drive home, to speed up the process.Â
It’s best to avoid putting on makeup, sunscreen, and your usual skin-care products for the rest of the day, but Dr. Swengel says everything except Retin-A and other retinols is fine to use by the second day. Â
Your skin may take on a rougher texture for the next five days or so as the top layer sloughs off, but you’ll be able to go about your daily activities.
After about a week, you will see improved radiance and an overall glow. But you’ll need multiple Moxi laser treatments to see a significant lightening of dark spots and sun damage.
“The more treatments you do, the more corrective it is,” says Dr. Robb. He recommends three to four sessions, spaced a week apart, for best results.Â
Moxi can also be successfully combined with other procedures, like BroadBand Light (BBL), laser tattoo removal (to bring the pigment to the surface quicker), and microneedling with radiofrequency.Â
To maintain your Moxi laser results, it’s helpful to have follow-up treatments once or twice a year after your initial round. You’ll still need to wear sunscreen and protective clothing to prevent future sun damage.

Moxi laser treatments are considered safe, with few risks and side effects.
